As the club's new competition secretary, I was very interested to see how the first of our regular "monthly" competitions would turn out under the new rules. First, though, my thanks to Brian Ward and Sheila Haycox for covering for me during September. I hope I can continue to do as good a job as they did in my absence.
Our judge, John Foulkes, spoke very knowledgeably about our images and his comments were well-measured and largely helpful. We'll need to watch the time carefully in future though, as we allowed him to over-run a bit. With scores no longer being given to each and every image, John was able to be more positive, not needing to justify any lower marks with criticism but concentrating more on the merits of each image.
The overall winning image was Peter's "Zahra", described by the judge as "the best portrait I've seen in a long time". Well done Peter, you should be proud of that one!
Finally, well done to everyone, not just the winners shown above but to everyone who entered work, without whom it would have been a pretty dull evening.
